EU Tightens End-of-Life Vehicle Recycling Targets for 2027

EU Tightens End-of-Life Vehicle Recycling Targets for 2027

The European Union has published updated End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive targets, requiring member states to achieve 95% recycling by weight for all end-of-life vehicles by January 2027, up from the current 85% target.

The revised directive also introduces specific requirements for plastic recovery from ELVs and mandates the use of certified recycling facilities. These changes are expected to drive significant investment in advanced shredding and sorting equipment across the EU's 27 member states.

Industry experts estimate that achieving the new targets will require approximately 50 additional ELV processing facilities across Europe, representing a substantial market opportunity for equipment manufacturers specializing in metal shredding and separation technology.

LUODATE's SM-300 Scrap Metal Shredder with integrated sorting system is specifically designed to meet these enhanced ELV recycling requirements, offering high throughput with exceptional material separation purity.
